About Jim Pillers

I am retired from the computer industry and I moved to Lovington to help my dad, L, V. Pillers, and because Lovington was always a nice place to visit when we came out to see my parents. Mom, Altina, died 1996. I was born in El Paso, grew up in Fort Worth, graduated from college at then Arlington State College, now the University of Texas at Arlington with a degree in math. I did some graduate work at TCU before going into the Army. After the service I started my career in computers as a software developer and years later retired from it. I still have a PC and a laptop so I stay current, but I do not do programming any longer. My most fun endeavor, when I am not working on my house, is substitute teaching at the high school for the math classes. I love to see the light of understanding hit the face of some struggling student. I like to meet with the boys for coffee in the mornings at McDonalds. We will get into some rousing discussions about many things, but we always enjoy each other and most of us remain friends even if we disagree. I have been blessed with three kids, 2 girls and a son, and now am a very proud granddad of 4 four granddaughters. My daughters are working Moms and my son is a recent graduate in Economics from UTD. He is working now to get into law school. He is an Ironman competitor, very athletic, 33, good looking ( he is a professional model) and single. My son ran the Dallas White Rock Marathon in 2000 and I was amazed watching him and others run. There were young men and women, big men and women, and older men and women. Inspired, I trained for a year and entered the marathon myself in 2002 at 61. Unfortunately though, I did not finish. After 15 miles I had blisters on my feet and the back of my right knee would not permit me to continue. But I was still pleased with my performance. There are a lot of 60+ year olds competing in distance running and walking. I was shocked at the size of my competition group and their amazing physical conditioning after all the years. I love to tutor math. If anyone would like some help, I do it for free because its fun for me. Just let me know. I tend to be somewhat opinionated when it comes to politics, religion, gay rights, womens rights, the environment, I hate racism in any form including jokes, my business is my business and not yours, and your business is yours and not mine. So with that...
